This is one of the wild horses I encountered along the coast on my 2-day Hiking trail . However, they don't seem wild in the true sense of the word. They were more than comfortable having us in very close proximity, this one even allowed me to stroke him!

Historians believe they are decendended from horses that were hidden from the British during the Anglo-Boer war. Another theory suggests they are the decendents of horses that swam to shore when the troopship Birkenhead sank near the coastline.

Taken somewhere along the coast between Hermanus and Kleinmond, South Africa.
